In the lush beauty of the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center, Aurea – a Rhode Island-based ensemble of performance artists – explored the alchemy of music and words in their presentation of New & Dangerous Opinions of Roger Williams.

Consuelo Sherba, violist, is a founding member and artistic director of Aurea. She has been on the applied music faculty at Brown University since 1986, and also teaches at the RI Philharmonic Music School. She was chosen as Person of the Year by the Pawtucket Foundation in 2007, and in 2008, was awarded the prestigious Rhode Island Pell Award.

And on May 1, the Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra will honor Sherba with their 2016 Founders Award for her leadership in the Rhode Island arts community.

You can next hear Aurea on April 24 when they present Chromatic Fantasy: The World of Čiurlionis as a FirstWorks Premiere at the RISD Auditorium.
